Teaching Advanced Python Techniques using Astronomy and Astrophysics

Joseph MacMillan, Ontario Tech University

At Ontario Tech University, our third and fourth year Astrophysics students take a course that covers modern techniques used in astronomy and astrophysics. This centres around writing original Python code and using popular Python libraries. This poster will showcase the variety of skills and tools we train our students to use, including solving ordinary differential equations to model stars, using the AstroPy library to perform image analysis on Hubble Space Telescope data, building an N-body code using Python classes, and doing basic signal analysis with gravitational wave data.
