Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing) as a guiding principle
Biography
Carola Knockwood grew up in the Mi’kmaw traditional district of Siknikt, but now calls Membertou, N.S., home. After one year in the Integrative Science program at Cape Breton University, she completed a BSc in Biology followed by a BEd, and taught several grades at Maupeltuewey Kina’matno’kuom (community school) in Membertou. Her participation in the Nova Scotia Department of Education’s Curriculum Streamlining Committee sparked her interest in education administration and literacy, and guided her to her current position of Literacy Consultant with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey. An MEd candidate at Wheelock College, Carola is an enthusiastic proponent of Etuaptmumk / Two-Eyed Seeing and her goal is to see Mi’kmaw Knowledge included fully in science curricula, especially in all Mi’kmaw classrooms.
